After winning the T20I series under Hardik Pandya’s leadership and now the team will look to continue their winning rhythm in the ODI series well. Shikhar Dhawan will be leading the team in the ODI series while Rishabh Pant is named as the vice-captain for the ODI series as well.

India began their campaign for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. The men-in-blue are playing against New Zealand in a three-match ODI series. After winning the toss New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson invited the Indian team to put runs on the scoreboard in the first ODI match of the series.

Meanwhile, the wait is over for Sanju Samson’s fans to see him playing as he is included in the squad for the first match. There was lots of criticism on social media against the Indian team management for not playing Samson in the T20I series. Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik received their debut cap in the ODIs.

Umran Malik couldn’t contain his excitement

Umran was given his ODI cap by bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule. Indian Cricket Board shared a video of the cap presentation ceremony on their Twitter handle. Nervous Malik didn’t realize the movement of the cameraman and nearly collided with him and his teammates were seen telling him to be careful.

Talking about the match, Indian openers Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill gave India a brilliant start. Both scored a brilliant half-century. Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson took the responsibility to lift the inning and put a good total for the team. However, Washington Sundar gave the finishing touch to the innings and smashed 37 runs off 16 balls. India finished their inning with 306 runs after losing 7 wickets in 50 overs.
