During a recent visit to Kolkata, Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, a World Cup champion, displayed his contentious World Cup gesture to raucous applause from the crowd. Martinez imitated his World Cup gesture of placing the golden gloves trophy to his groin before emphatically waving it up above his head when he received a replica of the trophy during a felicitation program.

Martinez was presented with a golden glove similar to the one he won during Argentina's successful 2022 World Cup campaign at one of the many felicitation ceremonies he attended. When he accepted the trophy at the podium in Qatar, he made a motion with it that attracted both criticism and applause at the moment. Martinez ended up imitating that motion during the ceremony in Kolkata to the audience's applause.

The famous goalkeeper was already involved in a number of activities, including opening the Pele-Maradona-Sobers gate and declaring the Kolkata Police Friendship Cup open in front of a crowded stadium. These images of uncontrolled delight surged across the roadways leading up to the Mohun Bagan camp which was importantly most exciting thing.

Martinez, who was on a whirlwind tour of Kolkata, met his die-hard fans in his two days in the City of Joy. “It is the passion for football that I find similar. I see that passion in young kids here,” he said during the “Tahader Kotha” chat show at Kolkata’s Milan Mela Ground on Tuesday.

The Argentinean goalkeeper was overwhelmed by the welcome that he received from thousands of fans who came in to support the Argentina jersey and also with jerseys reading Messi 10. The star goalkeeper also said that "Now when I come to places like this, I realise the importance of winning the World Cup. Making people happy. I said I would come to Kolkata to see the culture, the beautiful Kolkata city. I'm really proud to be here today," said the member of the World Cup-winning goalkeeper.
