Ahead of the prestigious Test Championship finals against India at the iconic Oval Cricket Ground in London on June 7, the Australian cricket team gifted Steve Smith the worst possible gift. In the fun activity organised by Apex Cricket Council, Australian players were asked to name the worst possible gift to give Smith.
The answers will shock you as almost everyone said that refraining Smith from batting for a day would be the worst gift for him. "Tell him training is cancelled or he is not allowed to bat," Australia captain Pat Cummins said in a video posted by the apex council. "I feel like it's going to be said a lot, no batting for a week," all-rounder Mitchell Marsh revealed. "Get him something from Kmart," Labuschagne said during Usman Khawaja's turn. "No batting for a day," Matthew Renshaw said.
"You're probably right, if he wasn't allowed to hit balls today, he would have a bad birthday," Starc agreed with his teammates. "Probably a day of cricket training," Scott Boland remarked. When Smith was later asked who could give him the worst gift, he replied, "Probably, Marnus, he would get me something stupid, I reckon."

Steve Smith will be looking to get back his form against India
Ahead of the prestigious game, Steve Smith participated in the County Cricket Championship in England. He was part of Sussex in the second-division championship under the leadership of Cheteshwar Pujara. He scored just 122 runs in three innings, including a half-century at an average of 40.67. On the other hand, Pujara scored 545 runs in 8 innings at an average of 68.13 including three centuries and a half-century.
Notably, the Indian team is set to face Australia and would be looking to end their multinational trophy drought. India last won a multinational trophy in 2013 when they won the Champions Trophy under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Even though Rohit Sharma and his team will be optimistic with the majority of their players in form, the loss of a few key players might upset their equilibrium, given how important Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah have been to Team India's Test fortunes in recent years.
