Day 5 is set for a thrilling cricket action as In the first Test of the Ashes 2023, England will require seven wickets and Australia will need 174 runs. The first innings’ centurion Usman Khawaja is again looking strong in the middle while nightwatchman Scott Boland also did his job by saving his wicket at the end of the 4th day.

Meanwhile, the famous ‘Barmy Army’ made it tough for the Australian vice-captain Steve Smith as they reminded him his infamous Sandpaper Gate incident that happened in 2018 at Cape Town against South Africa. They started teasing Smith by singing “Steve we saw you cry on the telly” which left the cricket fraternity shocked.

The crowd quickly seized the chance to make fun of Smith's widely publicised interview he gave after the cricket scandal in 2018 when he returned home. During the interview, Smith was seen crying and tears were rolling down from his eyes as he was ashamed of the incident. Smith and David Warner were harshly treated by the public, who would boo and harass them at every opportunity. Smith took a break from the sport following his suspension, but he has since come back to establish himself as the finest Test hitter of his generation.

Australia hoping to start Ashes 2023 with a win

Talking about the match, Australia have a bright chance to start the Ashes series with a win against the host England. However, it won’t be that easy as England speedsters will definitely look to use the overcast conditions at Edgbaston to get some early wickets at the start of the 5th day.

The Kangaroos were recently crowned the World Champions as they defeated India in the recently concluded WTC 2023 final. However, Smith recently talked about it and said that it was a proud moment for them to win the WTC final but their main focus is to win the Ashes series as it would be a great moment for them to defeat England on their soil and win the iconic series.
