The Guyana Amazon Warriors continued their unbeaten record to the 2023 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023 with a 34-run win over the Jamaica Tallawahs at Warner Park. Batting first, Guyana posted a mammoth score of 210 runs in the allotted 20 overs, replying that Jamaica's team was bundled out for 176 runs.

The match saw Jamaica's first defeat in this tournament, Guyana won its second match and secured the second position in the points table. In this match, the Caribbean all-rounder Fabian Allen smashed a 98m six off Dwaine Pretorius in the 16th over.

Shimron Hetmyer helps Amazon Warriors to stay undefeated 

The Jamaica Tallawahs won the toss and chose to bowl first, which proved to be correct at first. Guyana lost the first four wickets for 76 runs in 10 overs, but Shimron Hetmyer and Keemo Paul then enjoyed a 99-run partnership. Keemo Paul scored 57 runs in 29 balls, including seven sixes, while Hetmyer scored 60 runs in 45 balls, including three fours and four sixes. For Jamaica, Mohammad Amir got a maximum of 3 wickets while Chris Green got 2.

In response, the top order collapsed to the bowling of Romario Sheppard. But in the middle order, Imad Wasim added 97 runs with Fabian Allen and came close to the target. Imad Wasim scored 63 runs in 36 balls, which included 3 fours and 5 sixes, while Allen scored 47 runs in 25 balls, hitting only 6 sixes. They were reduced to 176 runs in the 19th over itself and lost the match.

Romario Shepard won the man of the match for his sensational bowling and a cameo at the end of the innings to take his team past the 200-run mark. He stated, "I have been working very hard. Keemo played a fantastic innings; that was great. Fitness is a very key part of my game since I have to bat and bowl. It's about having that fire inside you, and for it to burn for longer. It's about keeping your foot on the gas."

The Tallahwas plays Barbados Royals on 1st September at the Kensington Oval Barbados.
