The final match of the first edition of the Women's Under-19 World Cup was played on Sunday. India defeated England by 7 wickets in Potchefstroom and won the major world tournament for the first time. After the victory, the team celebrated and danced to Bollywood songs.

After opting to bowl first in the final, India had England on the back foot from the start, thanks to a superb bowling performance and an impressive fielding display. After dismissing England for 68 runs, India chased down the target with seven wickets and six overs to spare, sparking wild celebrations in the camp.

The key to India’s march to victory was another clinical display with the ball, with Titas Sadhu setting the pace and the spinners delivering another telling performance when it mattered. The pacer was awarded the player of the match for her spell of 4 overs, 6 runs, and two wickets.
Chasing the target, captain Shafali Verma and Shweta Sherawat were caught quite early during the chase, it was Soumya Tiwari and Gongadi Trisha who took over the major batting responsibility that set off winning celebrations for the team with 36 balls to spare. Soumya Tiwari collected 24 runs off 37 balls whereas Trisha also put up 24 runs off 29 balls on the scoreboard. On England’s side, it was Ryana MacDonald-Gay who was the top-scorer of the day by making 19 runs off 24 balls before she was caught out by Arachana Devi.
In terms of scoring the most runs in the Under-19 Women’s 20-20 World Cup 2023, Indian player Shweta topped the list. She scored 292 runs in 6 matches. During this, Shweta scored 3 half-centuries. She scored more than 90 runs in an inning. Maggie Clarke topped in terms of taking the most wickets in the tournament. She took 12 wickets in 5 matches. Parshvi took the maximum of 9 wickets for India.
