Afghanistan's all-rounder Mohammad Nabi on Tuesday made his name into the record books he scored a blistering 50 runs off just 24 balls against Sri Lanka in Lahore in a thrilling Asia Cup group game. Nabi's sensational innings marked the fastest fifty ever recorded by an Afghan batter in the One Day International (ODI) format.
With an explosive display of power-hitting, Nabi smashed three sixes and six fours to reach his milestone, claiming his 16th fifty in the ODIs. His performance proved to be a game-changer for Afghanistan in their run chase of Sri Lanka's imposing total of 291 for 8, posted while batting first.

Kusal Mendis shines for Sri Lanka in do or die match
Kusal Mendis smashed 92 runs off 84 balls and was unlucky to miss his century after being dismissed by a runout at the non-striker’s end. Rashid Khan picked up two wickets, while Gulbadin Naib rattled Sri Lanka’s middle order but the defending champions’ lower order helped them to a challenging total of 291/8.
Having won the toss, Dasun Shanaka opted to bat first. The openers made together a stand of 63 runs, with a run rate of -1.780. The Afghanistan unit not only needed a win over the Lankan Lions, but they also needed a victory in just 37.1 overs to improve their net run rate and qualify for the next round of the Asia Cup.
Nabi entered the crease and made an immediate impact, ensuring that Afghanistan remained in the match and in contention for the Asia Cup Super Fours stage. His partnership with Hashmatullah Shahidi was sensational as the duo made a blistering 80-run stand for the fifth wicket in just 7.5 overs.
The experienced all-rounder scored 65 off just 32 balls, which included five sixes and six sixes. This knock showcased Mohammad Nabi's immense experience and his ability to strike under pressure, also highlighting his pivotal role as an all-rounder for the Afghans.
Kasun Rajitha and Matheesha Pathirana made early break thorughs. However, a powerful 40-ball 45 by Gulbadin Naib ensured Afghanistan remained in the hunt.
