From being a ticket collector at the Kharagpur Railway Station to India’s Captain Cool, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has built a fierce fan following for himself. Known for his helicopter shot and strategies on the field, Dhoni is one of the all-time greats of limited-overs cricket.

In a video going viral on social media, the former cricketer delighted a fan with an incredible gesture after the latter requested an autograph from him. Dhoni made it memorable for the fan by signing it on the back of his T-shirt.

Since the Indian Cricket Board announced that the Indian T20 League 2023 will be returning to the old 'home and away' format which was the norm in the pre-Covid-19 pandemic, there is no limit to the happiness of Chennai Franchise’s fans. The reason is that their favourite, Chennai captain Dhoni will return to his 'home ground' MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Is MS Dhoni set to retire in front of the home crowd?

Dhoni has not played in Chennai since 2019. The entire Indian T20 League 2020 was held in UAE while the first half of league 2021 was held in India and the second half in UAE. The whole season of the tournament 2022 was held in Mumbai and Pune. Even during the 2021 India leg, no team was allowed to play at their home ground to avoid any home ground benefit.

Dhoni confirmed his participation in next year’s cash-rich league ahead of the last match of the Chennai Franchise in 2022. The Chennai captain gave his captaincy duties to Ravindra Jadeja at the start of the season. However, with only 2 wins in 8 matches, Dhoni was given the captaincy back.

While Dhoni remains an asset to the franchise as a captain and an inspirational figure in the dressing room, he’s still one of the 11 players. And for that, he needs to make a positive impact on the side with the bat. This has, however, been a slight issue in recent seasons.
