Dindigul Dragons and Siechem Madurai Panthers clashed against each other in the 8th match of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2023 on June 18 at the NPR College Ground in Dindigul. Indian veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is currently leading the Dragons and they defeated the Panthers convincingly by 7 wickets and also made their way to the top of the points table with back-to-back wins.

The Panthers disappointed the fans with both bat and ball, however, there was an outstanding display of fielding from one of the players from the team. Leg-spinner Murugan Ashwin produced a stunning effort in the 4th over of the 2nd innings where he took an excellent backward running catch to dismiss Dindigul’s middle-order batter, S Arun.

Watch the video here:

It was a length delivery, outside off from Madurai’s speedster Gurjapneet Singh, Arun slashed the ball and it went high. The delivery was angling across but Arun wanted to heave it. However, Ashwin, who was at the point took an excellent catch by running backward and diving to grab it with both hands.

A brilliant all-round performance by Dindigul Dragons

Talking about the match, Dindigul won the toss and elected to field first and the decision proved absolutely right as they restricted the Panthers on the score of just 123 runs. They dismissed all the batters of the Panthers with 3 balls to spare. Jagatheesan Kousik was the only batter who looked confident as he scored 45 runs off 34 balls which included 4 fours and 3 sixes.

Sarvana Kumar and Suboth Bhati both picked up 3 wickets each. Coming to chase, Dindigul also had a poor start as they lost their 3 batters on the score of just 32 runs inside 4 overs. However, Baba Indrajith and Adithya Ganesh took things into their hand and took their team to a one-sided victory. Indrajith scored 78 runs off 48 deliveries and smashed 7 fours and 4 sixes. On the other hand, Ganesh played more like a companion of Indrajith as he scored 22 runs off 22 balls, however, his knock was really effective as he kept one end safe.
