Watch: Ruturaj Gaikwad creates history, hits seven sixes in an over during quarter-finals of Vijay Hazare Trophy

Maharashtra opener Ruturaj Gaikwad registered his name in the record books by smashing seven consecutive sixes in an over to create a LIST A record in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 Quarter-Final against Uttar Pradesh at Narendra Modi Stadium B Ground in Ahemdabad on Monday.

Uttar Pradesh won the toss and invited Maharashtra to bat first. UP pacers Ankit Rajpoot and Kartik Tyagi provided an early breakthrough by dismissing Rahul Tripathi and Satyajeet Bachhav. Maharashtra were in trouble as they lost 2 wickets after scoring only 41 runs in 12.4 overs.

But it turned out to be the day for Gaikwad as he played one of the greatest knocks in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The right-hander scored 220 runs off just 159 balls. It was looking like that Maharashtra inning will finish under 250 runs but Gaikwad’s blistering knock in the final phase of the innings helped the team to cross the 300-run mark.

Gaikwad scored 43 runs in an over

The 25-year-old scored 43 runs in the 49^th over of the inning bowled by Shiva Singh which included a no-ball too. The no-ball was apparently smashed for a six as well. Gaikwad smashed 16 sixes and 10 fours during his inning.

The Pune-born cricketer was in sensational form in the Indian T20 League 2021 and became the first-ever uncapped player to win the orange cap. In 2022, even after not being in his best form, the opener scored 368 runs in 14 matches.

The youngster will also be hungry for runs as despite performing well in the cash-rich league and for Maharashtra in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he isn’t getting enough opportunities in international cricket. He currently is in tremendous form in Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Talking about the Quarter-final match, Uttar Pradesh need 331 runs to beat Maharashtra and qualify for the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 semifinals. They have some talented names like Akshdeep Nath, Rinku Singh, Priyam Garg, Aryan Juyal, and Karan Sharma in their batting lineup. It will be interesting to see if Uttar Pradesh can pull off a win.
