India won 1-0 in a hard-fought contest against Bangladesh in the ongoing Asian Games. Sunil Chhetri-led Indian men’s football team get his team back on track with this win. In the first match, they were handed a hefty defeat by the People's Republic of China by 5-1.

The Blue Tigers needed to win this match in order to stay in the contest for the race of the pre-quarter-finals. Sunil Chhetri scored a late penalty in the second half to get his team through Bangladesh. Both the teams came into the game after a defeat in their opening games.

The latter suffered a 1-0 loss against Myanmar and needed a win today to remain alive in the race for the next round of qualification. The goal came during the 85th minute when Bangladesh skipped Rahmat Mia fouled on midfielder Bryce Miranda inside the box to concede a penalty.

Sunil Chhetri shines for India

Chhetri scored it into a goal from the spot. They made three changes to the team that started against China. With Dheeraj Singh, Chinglensana Singh, and Rohit Danu replacing Gurmeet Singh, Rahim Ali, and Sumit Rathi respectively.

In the second half, the Blue Tigers started positively, showing a little more intent on the pitch. But they were unable to break the deadlock. Stimac made changes bringing in Gurkirat Singh and Samul Kynshi. Kyanshi's freekick struck the post.

After the win, Chhetri said. "It was frustrating. I think a lot of things we could've done well. At the end of the day getting all three points is essential. On preparations for the game, he said, "Let's not talk about preparation, man. After a game like this, you don't want me in trouble. Prep or no prep, boys here or not here, 17 players or 30, all that is behind us. We will give all that we have . Whatever we talk about will not affect us in the next game, so chuck it."

India plays Myanmar in their final group-stage game on Sunday. While Bangladesh plays against Group A leaders China same day.
