'We don't see this often in women's cricket' - Shahid Afridi slams Harmanpreet Kaur for misbehaving in international platform

Indian Women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur faced a lot of criticism from many fans and former cricketers after she lost her temper during the 3rd ODI against Bangladesh which ended up in a draw. Harmanpreet was seen misbehaving during the trophy presentation ceremony where both team’s players were posing for photographs with the trophy as the series ended up 1-1.

Meanwhile, former legendary Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi recently talked about the same incident and said that the same thing has happened in past, however, it is quite shocking that they have witnessed this in women’s cricket. He said that the apex cricket body has set an example after punishing Harmanpreet for her poor behaviour.

"This is not just India. We've seen these things in the past as well. Although, we don't see this often in women's cricket. This was way too much, it was a big event under the apex cricket body. With the punishment, you set an example for the future. You can get aggressive in cricket; controlled aggression is good, but this was a bit too much," Afridi was quoted as saying by NDTV Sports.

Harmanpreet got banned for two matches

The cricket governing body has fined 50 %  and 25 % of her match fee for level 2 and level 1 offences respectively. She also received three demerit points as well. Apart from these, she is also banned from 2 international matches. Harmanpreet lost her calm and slammed the umpires and said that the umpires were ‘pathetic’ throughout the series.

“I think (there is) a lot of learning for us from the game. Even apart from the cricket, the kind of umpiring that was happening, we were very surprised. The next time we come to Bangladesh we will make sure we have to deal with this type of umpiring and prepare ourselves accordingly. Some pathetic umpiring was done. We are really disappointed about some decisions given by the umpires,” Harmanpreet said in the post-match presentation.
