In the 11th game of the ongoing Women's Premier League 2024 (WPL 2024), Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriors played each other. This was the reverse fixture between both teams, having played in the second game of the tournament. In the game, RCB won the last-ball thriller. Meanwhile, in this game, the Yellow Brigade won the toss and elected to bowl first.
The home team, Royal Challengers had a great start with Sabbineni Meghana and skipper Smriti Mandhana putting together 53 runs in 5.3 overs. The former got out to Anjali Sarwani in the last over of the powerplay. Ellyse Perry came and added another 95 runs for the second wicket with the skipper in the next 9.4 overs. Mandhana scored 80 off 50 balls including 10 fours and five sixes.
On the other hand, the Australia all-rounder scored 58 off 37 balls including four fours and as many sixes. With Richa Ghosh (21*) also playing a cameo, the team reached a tough total of 198/3.
Royal Challengers Bangalore ends the home leg win with a convincing win
In reply, the Alyssa Healy-led side had a great start as they scored 40/0 in three years despite playing the first over as a maiden. However, the wicket of Kiran Navgire in the fifth over derailed the chase. The Red Army bowlers made a comeback and started putting some pressure. The Lucknow-based team was reduced to 89/4 with the skipper scoring her fifty at the other end.
After the Australia skipper was stumped by Richa Ghosh off Ekta Bisht, it was going to be extremely difficult for the team to chase the target. The likes of Deepti Sharma and Poonam Khemnar tried their best but the team lost by 23 runs. With the win, the Red Army's Net Run Rate was boosted and they are now at the third position before the tournament moved to Delhi and it will conclude in the national capital.
