WPL 2024: SWOT analysis of Gujarat Giants

In the Women's Premier League 2024 (WPL 2024), Gujarat Giants would enter the season with the baggage of last placed finish last year. Unlike their parent franchise (Gulf Giants) which won the ILT20 2023 title, the Gujarat team disappointed the fans. This was the reason they decided to let go of some of their players ahead of the 2024 auction late last year.

Ahead of the tournament, the team has some India and foreign international players are part of the team. However, as seen in the history, the game is not played on the paper. Let's have a look at the squad and analyse the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats that might take place during the tournament.

1. Strengths

The team had retained players such as Ashleigh Gardner, Beth Mooney, Harleen Deol, Sneh Rana, and Laura Woolwardt. During the auction, the team signed players such as Phoebe Litchfield, Meghna Singh, Veda Krishnamurthy, etc. These players can make it to the playing XI easily although some of the foreign players have to miss out due to four-player restrictions.

2. Weakness

While the team has some experienced players, they have invested in a lot of teenage prodigies such as Mannat Kashyap, Shabnam MD, and some players will be playing for the first time in Indian conditions.

3. Opportunities

As the team is not one of the contenders of winning the tournament given the squads of other teams, they can surprise the opposition teams and can do well in the tournament.

4. Threats

Talking about the threats, the biggest one for the team would be not being able to put together the right playing XI given some of the players might be difficult to keep out of the playing XI.
