Chris Gayle, one of the legends of West Indies cricket, recently gave a lengthy interview regarding the impending India vs. Pakistan match during the ODI World Cup 2023. The powerful batsman believes that the headline matchup between the bitter rivals will be the most important game of the competition and will bring in a sizable sum of money to the apex cricket council in addition.
On October 15, there will be a match between India and Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In the seven ODI World Cup meetings between India and Pakistan since 1992, no team has suffered a defeat.
The former Royal Challengers Bangalore batter spoke about the highlight game of the world cup being the clash between the two arch-rivals. He said, “It's going to be the most exciting game of the World Cup. It's like a final. It's just a crazy sold-out game."
The World Cup will be funded by only one India vs. Pakistan game, he continued, because of the amount of money it will bring in through just one day. He said, "Whenever those teams play, especially in a World Cup, the revenues they generate is humongous. One game can take care of the entire ICC event. Pakistan and India players should demand a lot of money for those games because those games are high paid games TV wise."
India have not won an ICC trophy in a long time: Chris Gayle
However, Gayle also warned the hosts India about the burden they would experience while hosting the World Cup. He said,"I know India have not won an ICC trophy in a long time and same is the case with us (West Indies). We last won in 2016. Pressure will be on India as they play at home as favourites."
Chris Gayle also spoke about how the India vs Pakistan rivalry is bigger than the Ashes, which is the oldest cricket rivalry of them all. In his opinion, when India and Pakistan play, it is a bigger spectacle than the Ashes.
