A sting operation of the Indian Cricket Team’s chief selector Chetan Sharma has come to the fore. Chetan Sharma has made many big revelations. Some of the biggest things he revealed about the team was the real reason behind the disagreement between Sourav Ganguly and former India captain Virat Kohli, and who is responsible for dropping players from the team.

Kohli took the decision to step down as T20I captain in September 2021 after the 20-20 World Cup in Dubai. Later, it was reported that the Indian Cricket Board stripped him of ODI captaincy in December 2021 and named Rohit Sharma as the white-ball captain.

“Virat Kohli felt he lost the captaincy because of the Indian Cricket Board President. There were nine people in the selection committee video conference, Ganguly told him ‘think about it once’. I think Kohli didn’t hear it, there were nine others there including myself and all other selectors, board’s officials,” Sharma was heard saying in the video by ZeeNews.

Sharma also said that he felt that there was an ego clash between Ganguly and Kohli.

“Two egos clashing, one who is thinking that Ganguly has removed me from the captaincy, so I will teach him a lesson. He (Virat) gave a statement that Ganguly is doing this, basically to defame him. He (Virat) tried to tell this in the media… which backfired on him (Virat),” Chetan said.

Hardik Pandya will take over Rohit Sharma in T20I captaincy

Chetan also revealed that Rohit will no longer be part of the T20I setup with star Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya taking over the captaincy duties in the shortest format of the game. He stated that young Indian batter Shubman Gill is accommodated in the T20I team while giving 'rest' to first-team players Kohli and Rohit.

The chief selector also claimed that it was his decision to bring in the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Deepak Hooda, Shubman Gill, and several other players to the Indian national team. He claimed the number to be around 15-20 players.
