India’s young cricketer and Gujarat Titans opener in the Indian Premier League 2023 Shubman Gill loves to play at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Of the 12 matches he played in the IPL 2023, heading into the home game against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 62nd match of the tournament, Gill scored four fifties, all of which came in Ahmedabad.
In the encounter against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 7, he attempted to reach the elusive triple-figure mark but was only able to score 94 runs. On Monday, May 15, he finally succeeded in doing what had eluded him for the majority of his IPL career. With a remarkable strike rate of 174.14, Gill scored his first IPL century against SRH in just 56 deliveries and played a superb inning of 101 runs in just 58 balls, which included 13 fours and a six.
Brilliant records by Shubman Gill in IPL
He finally reached his century in 56 balls, making him the sixth player in IPL 2023 to do so, joining players like Suryakumar Yadav, Venkatesh Iyer, Harry Brook, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Prabhsimran Singh, who have all reached their first tonne in IPL history. Along with the century, Gill reached 400 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium, which is a record for a batter at any IPL 2023 location. The next best is Devon Conway, who at the Chepauk scored 350 runs in seven innings.
Talking about both teams, GT and Sunrisers Hyderabad have had contrasting fortunes so far as the Hardik Pandya-led team sits on top of the table, while SRH is in 9th position. Hyderabad’s hopes are hanging by a thread. If they lose this game, they will become the second team after Delhi to get eliminated. They have been involved in some close contests but the failure to capitalise on the crunch moments has cost them big. The situation demands them to fire collectively as a unit when they will come to chase the target.
