India clashed against Sri Lanka in the third and final ODI match of the series in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday. India made a few changes as Hardik Pandya and Umran Malik have been rested, with shortest format sensation Suryakumar Yadav and Washington Sundar making it into the team. Sri Lanka have also made two changes in their squad for a consolation win. Ashen Bandara and Jeffery Vandersay came in for Dhananjaya de Silva and Dunith Wellalage.

India’s young cricketer Shubman Gill continues to perform brilliantly in international cricket. He scored a century in 89 balls in the third match. He was dismissed after scoring 116 runs off 97 balls. Gill has been in rich vein of form. In the first match, Gill played a brilliant knock of 70 runs.

Shubman Gill is in great form in ODI

Talking about the match, captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat. At the time of writing, the Indian team has scored 228 runs for 2 wickets in 34 overs. Rohit got out after scoring 42 runs off 49 balls. He added 95 runs for the first wicket with Gill. Virat Kohli is currently on the crease with 59 runs to his name. He made a 100-run partnership with Gill. Notably, Indian team have already made a 2-0 lead in the series.

Gill had a slow start in the third ODI. He wasn’t able to open the account on the first 10 balls. He picked up the pace from the sixth over. He hit 4 fours on the last 4 balls of the sixth over to up the ante. He completed his half-century off 52 ball, including 8 fours.

The 23-year-old has scored 894 runs in 18 ODI innings at an average of almost 60. He has scored 2 centuries and 5 half-centuries so far. Questions were asked about Gill's place in the side as he was backed ahead of Ishan Kishan for the Sri Lanka ODIs after the Mumbai Indians star had hit a double hundred in Bangladesh in December 2022.
