Retired Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh praised Virat Kohli for his outstanding leadership during Thursday's victory over the Punjab Kings (PBKS) by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the PCA Stadium in Mohali along with the latter’s win against Rajasthan Royals at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore.

Singh praised Kohli for effectively manoeuvring his bowlers, pointing out, in particular, the instance when he deployed wrist spinner Wanindu Hasaranga to win the match-up in the powerplay. The Bangalore captain's strategies were masterful, enabling RCB to effectively defend the target of 175 runs. The former Team Indian skipper was also lethal against Rajasthan Royals with his plans as they were able to defend 190 runs but this time at an even tougher ground that is also their home ground. 

After the 2021 season, Virat Kohli gave up his position as the RCB team's captain. Given that Faf Du Plessis took over as captain and Glenn Maxwell served as vice-captain, it was extremely improbable that the player could ever captain the team again. Virat Kohli was seen commanding RCB once more in the match against Punjab Kings as well as Rajasthan Royals, much to everyone's astonishment.

Faf Du Plessis' replacement as captain, Virat Kohli, took over while Du Plessis was out with a rib injury. The team included Faf Du Plessis as a key contributor. He was substituted by Vyshak Vijay Kumar after continuing his excellent form with the bat.

What did the former Indian team off-spinner Harbhajan Singh say about Kohli’s captaincy?

Harbhajan discussed how his bowling changes helped RCB to get a dangerous PBKS batter out of the equation. “Virat Kohli was back doing captaincy after a long time and was absolutely brilliant. The way he brought Hasaranga early to dismiss Matthew Short showed signs of good captaincy. He read the match-up perfectly that Short plays pace well and struggles against spin and was rewarded when Hasaranga dismissed the batter."

Harbhajan Singh then also discussed how Virat Kohli should return back to captaincy for the Royal Challengers Bangalore as the franchise has been achieving a lot of success under him. He said, "Virat Kohli should continue captaining RCB for the rest of the season. RCB is doing well under him."
