Over the years, Mitchell Starc has been conspicuously absent from the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Australia pacer has primarily focused on the longer formats of cricket and has established himself as a formidable force with both the red and white ball. He contributed significantly to Australia's victories in events such as the 2015 World Cup, the 2021 T20 World Cup, and numerous Ashes series, among others.

Nevertheless, it appears that the left-arm speedster is now prepared to end his IPL hiatus as he sets his sights on making a comeback to the league next. The two-time World Champion viewed participation in the cash-rich league as a valuable opportunity to prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, The tournament will be played in the West Indies and the USA in June next year. If a franchise selects him, it would signify Starc's return to the biggest T20 League after his last appearance in 2015.

The legendary pacer had previously played 27 matches across two seasons for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. In 2018, the left arm bowler was signed by the Kolkata Knight Riders but had to withdraw due to injury. At various points, he had considered making a comeback to the IPL but opted to prioritize spending time at home due to Australia's demanding multi-format cricket schedule. However, the upcoming year offers a lighter workload for Australia, with only the T20 World Cup on the horizon. This tournament falls between a tour of New Zealand in March and a series of white-ball matches against Afghanistan, Ireland, and England starting in late August.

I am definitely coming back next year: Mitchell Starc

"Look it's been eight years. I'm definitely going back in year,". "Amongst other things, it's a great lead-up to the T20 World Cup. So a good opportunity to see if anyone's interested in the IPL, then lead into the T20 World Cup. And it's somewhat of a quiet winter next year…in comparison to this winter, so I think a perfect opportunity to put my name in,” the star left-hand bowler told the Willow Talk Cricket Podcast.

Starc's comeback to the league has the potential to add excitement to the IPL auction. His remarkable speed and cricketing prowess make him a candidate for becoming one of the most highly coveted assets by IPL franchises. His participation could spark intense bidding wars, especially considering his established success in T20 cricket and the strong desire of teams to reinforce their fast-bowling options for the tournament.
