If a franchise selects him, it would signify Starc's return to the biggest T20 League after his last appearance in 2015.

The legendary pacer had previously played 27 matches across two seasons for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. In 2018, the left arm bowler was signed by the Kolkata Knight Riders but had to withdraw due to injury. At various points, he had considered making a comeback to the IPL but opted to prioritize spending time at home due to Australia's demanding multi-format cricket schedule. However, the upcoming year offers a lighter workload for Australia, with only the T20 World Cup on the horizon. This tournament falls between a tour of New Zealand in March and a series of white-ball matches against Afghanistan, Ireland, and England starting in late August.
