The women's cricket teams of Australia and England geared themselves for the beginning of their own multi-format Ashes series after an exciting Test match in the men's Ashes. The Women’s Ashes kicked off with a Test match at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Thursday, June 22. After winning the toss, Australia decided to bat first, and they made the most of it by scoring 328 runs for 7 wickets on the first day.

Meanwhile, Australia’s star allrounder Ellyse Perry missed her well-deserved century by just 1 run which left her heartbroken with many fans as well. Perry couldn’t keep her nervousness about achieving the milestone down and made a big mistake of playing a shot against a delivery which was going outside off. It went straight to the gully where Nat Sciver-Brunt took a brilliant catch over her head.

The winner of the Ashes will be decided by adding up the points from the series, which consists of 1 Test, 3 T20Is, and then 3 ODIs. This Test is significant in and of itself because it is only the second occasion of a women's Test lasting five days. Talking about the match so far, Australian openers Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield gave a decent start to the team, however, they lost the former on the score of 35 runs.

Mooney also departed on the 22nd over, but later Perry and Tahlia Mcgrath stitched an outstanding 119-run stand for the 3rd wicket. After which, the English bowler bounced back and sent 4 more batters on the score of  236 runs but once again a partnership put the pressure back on them as Ashleigh Gardner and Annabel Sutherland stitched a 77-run stand for the 7th wicket. Australia still have 3 wickets in their hands, it’d be interesting to see if they cross the 400-run mark on Day 2 or not.

We'll have to wait and see how a 5-day game will go: Alyssa Healy

Meanwhile, Australian captain and wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy got cleaned bowled on a duck by Sophie Ecclestone, however, after winning the toss she stated that the sun is out and she decided to bat first but she couldn’t even open her account.

“Sun's out and we'd like to bat, the wicket looks pretty good. There's obviously going to be a little in it for the bowlers but I think we can get a good score. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous but it's an exciting time for me, my family is here as well. Preparations have been going really well, the girls are in a great place to come out here and compete. We'll have to wait and see how a 5-day game will go, the wicket might play a few more tricks.” Healy was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
