Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) speedster Mark Wood has left the Indian Premier League 2023 midway to attend his daughter’s birth in England and he wants to be with his wife Sara at such a time. It is expected that he is unlikely to return to the league later as LSG have already found his replacement in Afghanistan pacer, Naveen ul Haq.

LSG posted a video on their official Twitter account where all the players gave a farewell to Wood. The speedster revealed the reason behind his early departure and also apologised for playing only 4 matches for the team. However, he praised the team’s environment and wished the team to do well ahead.

Watch the video here:

"For the birth of my daughter. So, sadly, but for a good reason to go home. Hopefully, I might be able to come back and hopefully, you will be able to see me again. I am sorry that unfortunately I have not played more and in the four games that I have managed to play, I have managed to get a few wickets and hopefully, I can charge in again," Wood said.

"It's a great team togetherness here. I really love the team, the backroom staff are fantastic and it has been great to see the lads do well over different parts of the tournament."

One last push and get into those playoffs: Mark Wood

Talking about LSG’s performance in the league so far, they are standing in the 3rd spot in the points table with 11 points in 11 matches. Wood motivated the players to push more and make it to the playoffs. However, their past performance was very disappointing as in the last 3 matches to failed to get a win.

"One last push and get into those playoffs and make it to the finals. That's the goal and as a group, we understand that. It is tough in sports, you win some and you lose some but the lads are training hard. There are some fantastic characters in the group and they really try everything for your team. So keep believing and back them up, and I am sure they'll come good," Wood concluded.
