The action returned in the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday with a doubleheader. In the day's first game, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) thrashed Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 112 runs taking a big step towards playoff qualification. At the same time, the second game had in store a direct chance for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to confirm their qualification for the playoffs as they hosted Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.
The home team won the toss, and MS Dhoni decided to bat on a surface that visibly preferred bowlers. Thanks to Shivam Dube's 48 off 34, CSK could post a competitive total of 144/6 in their twenty overs. Opener Devon Conway, with 30 off 28, is also to be credited for setting the foundation for CSK's innings. For KKR, Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine returned with two wickets in their four overs, recording 2/36 and 2/15, respectively. Shardul Thakur and Vaibhav Arora had one scalp apiece.

In reply, KKR went off to a shaky start, losing their openers Jason Roy and Rahmanullah Gurbaz cheaply. Impact player Venkatesh Iyer was also shown the way to the pavilion soon after as KKR found themselves struggling at 33-3 after 4.3 overs. But skipper Nitish Rana (57 off 44) and star batter Rinku Singh (54 off 43) put on a brilliant 99-run partnership for the fourth wicket partnership as KKR chased the target down with 9 balls to spare, lodging a six-wicket victory.
Next, in the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) will host the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It'll be a straight win and qualify scenario for GT. They are coming into the game after a defeat at the hands of the Mumbai Indians (MI) in a high-scoring encounter. At the same time, the Sunrisers are also coming into the game after suffering a comprehensive defeat against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
