On this day in 2008, former India skipper Virat Kohli made his international debut in an ODI against Sri Lanka. Ahead of the series, former opening batter Virender Sehwag got injured and was ruled out of the series. This meant that the young Kohli was asked to open the batting after the then-chief selector, Dilip Vengsarkar saw him in India's A tour of Australia.

In that series, New Zealand also participated, making it a tri-nation series. Meanwhile, in his debut series, he could only score one fifty in five games. However, as it turned out, he was destined for greatness. Talking about ODI cricket, he is the fifth-highest run-getter with 12898 runs in 275 games. He will play next in Sri Lanka during the Asia Cup 2023 as he is currently on a break.

Talking about his records in Tests and T20Is, 8676 and 4008 runs respectively. Meanwhile, as reported by ESPNcricinfo, Kohli has a mind-boggling record during his 15-year-old career across formats.
