With only three games left in the league stage of the 16th edition of the IndianΒ  IPL 2023, the race to the playoffs is becoming more competitive. Chennai Super Kings defeated Delhi Capitals by a score of 77 runs to advance as the second team behind Gujarat Titans. With their victory, CSK retained their second-place standing on the points chart with 17 points after eight victories and one tie in 14 games. They also have a net run rate of +0.652.

As the second game of the day puts Lucknow Super Giants against Kolkata Knight Riders, they have a strong opportunity to qualify. The team led by Krunal Pandya is third in the IPL standings with 15 points after 13 games, seven wins, and no result. They also have a net run rate of +0.304.

A victory over KKR will ensure hassle-free qualifying for LSG. If they do, they will have to pray that either MI or RCB lose their matches the next day. In the meanwhile, if Lucknow loses Qualifier 1, they still stand a good chance of placing in the top two and gaining a spot in Qualifier 2. LSG has to defeat KKR by 97 runs in order to surpass CSK in the points standings.

Marcus Stoinis - The highest scorer for LSG in IPL 2023

LSG enters the match riding a two-match winning streak after defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians in back-to-back games. The foreign hitters Marcus Stoinis, Kyle Mayers, and Nicholas Pooran have all contributed to LSG's success thus far in the season.

With 368 runs scored, an average of 33.45, and a strike rate of 151.44, Stoinis leads the Lucknow offence. With the ball, Mark Wood has 11 wickets while Ravi Bishnoi has taken 14 from 12 innings with an average of 24.14. Mark Bishnoi is the top wicket-taker for LSG.

Prerak Mankad (1 off 3) and Quinton de Kock (11 off 10) are at the crease as the LSG, who were given the opportunity to bat first, are 15/1 after three overs. In the third over, Harshit Rana took the first blow for KKR, removing Karan Sharma by having him caught at midwicket.
