In the 56th game of the ongoing IPL 2023, Kolkata Knight Riders played hosts to Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Gardens. Ahead of the game, the 2008 winners were coming off three back-to-back losses. On the other hand, the home team was coming off two back-to-back wins. Meanwhile, in the game, both teams needed to win to keep their playoff hopes alive.

At the toss, the Royals won the toss and elected to bowl first given the wicket was dry and helpful for spinners. The bowlers responded well with the ball with Trent Boult taking out Jason Roy. Shimron Hetmyer took a screamer at the square leg boundary. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was caught very well by Sandeep Sharma at mid-off off Bout. At 29/2, the likes of skipper Nitish Rana and Venkatesh Iyer put together 48 runs.

This partnership was ended by Yuzvendra Chahal, who became the all-time highest wicket-taker with the wicket of Rana. On the other hand, Iyer hit a fifty. However, apart from this, no other batters could do well and ended up with only 149/8. Yuzvendra Chahal took four wickets while Boult two. Sandeep Sharma and KM Asif took one each.

Rajasthan Royals belted apart from Kolkata Knight Riders

In reply, the inaugural champions had a dream start in the chase. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 26 runs in the first over, bowled by skipper Rana. Despite losing Jos Buttler via run out, there was no stopping Jaiswal as he went on to score his fifty in just 13 balls. With this, he went past KL Rahul and Pat Cummins' 14-ball fifty, a record jointly held by them up until this game.

He was well supported by skipper Sanju Samson who hit an unbeaten 48 runs in just 29 balls including five sixes and two fours. On the other hand, Jaiswal scored an unbeaten 98 off 47 including 12 fours and five sixes. They helped the team chase down the target in just 13.1 overs and won the game by nine-wicket.
