'Ab iska credit Dhoni nhi lega' - Fans react as Punjab Kings register thrilling victory over CSK by 4 wickets in IPL 2023

The 41st match of the Indian Premier League 2023 was played between the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, April 30. PBKS began their campaign in style by winning their opening two games but since then, they have managed only two wins out of six. 

Meanwhile, talking about the match, CSK won the toss and opted to bat first. And as usual, openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway provided a great start and stitched a wonderful 86-run stand for the first wicket before Gaikwad departed after scoring 37 runs. CSK surprised everyone by sending Shivam Dube at no.3 which is Ajinkya Rahane’s regular place.

However, Conway continued to score runs at a good pace and kept the scoreboard ticking. He scored unbeaten 92 runs but the pacers did a decent job for PBKS toward the end of the innings. Despite that, skipper MS Dhoni came in the last over and smashed 2 back-to-back sixes against Sam Curran and helped the team to achieve a total of 200 runs.

Chasing the target, skipper Shikhar Dhawan and Prabhsimran Singh got off to a quick start before the former fell on the score of 28 runs. Dhoni then soon brought on his spinners and that began the middle phase when the runs did not come fluently and the wickets came. But Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran joined hands and immediately after the 2nd timeout, Tushar Deshpande and Ravindra Jadeja went for 41 in 2 overs which turned the game.

CSK though came back with crucial wickets even as Jitesh again looked set to take his side home but a close call went CSK's way in the penultimate over. Sikandar Raza came out and struck a boundary before he finished it off in the final over against Pathirana, who bowled really well but ended up on the losing side.
