Fakhar Zaman

Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman has been the star for the Men in Green in the white-ball format. The left handed openner had a sensational comeback in the ODI World Cup 2023 after being dropped due to his poor performance in the first few games. Though he does not open for the side in the T20I format as former captain Babar Azam and wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan does for the side and both have a good understanding and scored runs as well for the country in the shortest format of the game.

The 33-year-old batter has decided to sacrifice the opening slot for the above mentioned batters, in the upcoming T20I series in New Zealand, which starts at Eden Park in Auckland on January 12. The club management has asked him to play at No. 3 or No. 4 in the forthcoming series. Due to their exceptional performance in the shortest format, the explosive opener stated that Babar and wicketkeeper-batter Rizwan will remain Pakistan's first-choice openers.

The team is currently touring Australia for a three match test series. This is Men in Green's first assignment since their newly appointed management, but things have not changed as they have lost the series after losing the 2nd test and their dream winning a test match in Australia since 1995 is incompleted.

Competition is necessary for any team: Fakhar Zaman

Zaman was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan, "Competition is necessary for any team. It's good that six players are available for one spot in the team. I have always opened for the team but as per situation, I have been instructed to play one down or two down, because as you know Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan have been performing as openers." He added, "The coach and captain has commanded me to play one down or two down and I am happy with that."

The batter has scored 812 runs in 36 innings at an average of 22.56, including four half-centuries. At No.3, Zaman has amassed 522 runs in 26 innings at an average of 22.70.
