India's pacer Mohammed Shami, when asked to name the best batter, chose Virat Kohli, highlighting Kohli's record-breaking achievements. However, he added a special mention to Rohit Sharma, labelling him the most dangerous batter. Shami's perspective aligns with the ongoing debate about the finest batsman in the world.
“Virat Kohli is the best batsman in the world. He has just broken a lot of records. I feel Virat is the best, but if you ask me who the most dangerous batter in the world is, I would say, Rohit Sharma,” Shami said in an interaction with a media outlet.
Regarding the best captain, Shami unequivocally picked Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Explaining his choice, Shami emphasised Dhoni's unparalleled achievements, stating that no one has surpassed his success. Shami's endorsement reflects the enduring impact and leadership legacy of the former Indian captain.
"It's different for everyone. Everything comes down to comparison. Obviously, you will go with the person who is most successful. So, I’ll go with Mahendra Singh Dhoni because whatever he has achieved, no one has been able to eclipse that," says Mohammed Shami.
When will Mohammed Shami make a comeback?
Meanwhile, Shami's absence from the South Africa tour and the initial Tests against England raise concerns about India's pace bowling workload. With uncertainty surrounding Shami's availability for the upcoming Tests, the team faces challenges in managing the workload, particularly for key pacer Jasprit Bumrah.
The squad for the remaining Tests is yet to be announced, leaving questions about Bumrah's potential rest. Despite Mohammed Siraj's presence in the nets before the Test, the team decided to send him home from Vizag, strategically considering the broader workload scenario. As India contemplates when and how to use their pacers judiciously, the challenge remains to balance their workload effectively, especially with an eye on the crucial final Test in Dharamsala.
Here is how fans react to Mohammed Shami’s comments:
