Pakistan is currently on a three-match Test tour against Australia. The first Test has already begun in Perth. The Men in Green will be playing their first test under new management with a new skipper, director, and selectors as well. Shan Masood has been named as the captain for the Test. Babar Azam has stepped down from all format captaincy roles after the team failed to qualify for the knockouts in the ODI World Cup 2023 and will be part of the team only as a player.
Wasim Akram during a conversation with former India captain Gautam Gambhir was discussing the role of Babar, as they believe that he can be the best batter now as there are no captaincy roles and no pressure will be over him and he can play more freely and that can bring his best out as well.
Babar did not score a single hundred in the mega event and failed to have an impact in India. The team has named Shaheen Shah Afridi as their T20I captain and they are yet to decide on the ODI captain as they have no ODI scheduled in recent times.
Now, the world will see a new Babar Azam: Gautam Gambhir
Akram said, "Babar resigned, and Shaheen became the captain of the T20I side. Shan Masood has been made the test captain. Mohammed Hafeez has been made the director of cricket and he is also the coach for the Australia Tour. Wahab Riaz is the chief selector. It's good in a way because they have just retired. They will bring in a different energy, new ideas."
Gautam Gambhir added, "You will see a new Babar Azam now. I had said before the World Cup that he could be the best batter. But there was the pressure of captaincy. Now, the world will see a new Babar Azam, a different Babar Azam. Babar Azam does not need to prove anything. Honestly, he will not get anything by winning PSL. He should go out there and become the best batter out there."
