Mohammed Shami has been one of the finest pacers of this generation. He has been a consistent performer for the side across formats. He emerged as a match-winner for the team. While his performances for Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) speak for the ability he has, there hasn't been much clarity about his international future in the T20 format. The 33-year-old has been honoured with the Arjuna Award by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu. He was nominated for the award from the India Cricket Board.

Shami played his last T20I for India against England in the T20 World Cup last year. Since then, selectors have not called up the veteran pacer in the shortest format. While Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma returned to the T20I for the three-match series against Afghanistan, Shami was left out of the squad for the first time since the T20 World Cup in 2022.

The veteran pacer has picked 24 wickets, in 7 matches he played in the ODI World Cup 2023. The T20 World Cup 2024 is a few months away and he might be selected for the mega event as he is still recovering from an injury he sustained during the World Cup.

Whenever T20s are being talked about: Mohammed Shami

Shami said, "Whenever T20s are being talked about, I don't understand if I am in the scheme of things or not. But I believe that there's IPL before the T20 World Cup. I don't know what will happen but playing T20 matches before the World Cup will help you show what your rhythm and performance is. If the team management likes what it sees, I am available for selection."

Shami had said ahead of the award ceremony, "This award is a dream; life passes and people are not able to win this award. I am happy that I have been nominated for this award." The pacer has been the highest wicket-taker for India in the history of the ODI World Cup.
