India’s recent T20I series win over Afghanistan had opened up a new debate. Shivam Dube has put up his hand as far as selection for the 2024 T20 World Cup is concerned. The 30-year-old scored two half–centuries and also contributed with the ball.
This has now created a massive debate in the Indian Cricket circles. With Hardik Pandya suffering recurrent injuries there is a need for an able backup. 30-year-old Shivam Dube has given that option to the Indian cricket team.
Coach Rahul Dravid has now come out and spoken about the two players. While the focus will be on the upcoming Test series, the IPL is set to be a hotbed of action. According to reports, the players for the huge event in June will just have the first month to impress the selectors.
Indian Coach speaks on Pandya vs Dube debate –
After having a successful series versus Afghanistan, Shivam Dube has earned the praise of Rahul Dravid. India’s Coach was asked if Shivam Dube now has a better chance to make it to the 2024 T20 World Cup in place of Hardik Pandya.
Rahul Dravid said "He has certainly put his hand up and said, 'Look, here I am and these are the skills I possess, and if you are looking for something like that, I have got this ability,' Many fans have asked the selectors to consider Shivam Dube ahead of the injury prone Hardik Pandya.
While addressing the media, Rahul Dravid also said “He really showed us that he has got some really good ability through those middle overs against spin. Also with the ball. He bowled some good overs and he has learned some lessons as well that it can be a very unforgiving bowling in a place like Bangalore”
Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin has come up with a funny statement as far as Shivam Dube being compared to Yuvraj Singh. “Hardik Pandya is a crucial member of this Indian team. However, the emergence of Shivam Dube… Just like how we divide ears into Before Christ and After Christ, we can divide his career into ‘before CSK’ and ‘after CSK’. In West Indies conditions, which are almost CSK conditions, he is a spin-hitting monster.
