Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria called the former Indian captain Virat Kohli selfless. He pointed out how Kohli had to go through the brunt of India's group-stage exit at the 20-20 World Cup last year and how several fans and critics wanted India to drop the star batter from the side during his lean patch.
“When it comes to being selfless, there is no one like Virat Kohli. The team lost the World Cup under his captaincy, and he was made the scapegoat after that. Many raised questions about his place on the team. But he didn't give up. He gave his full support to the new captain and played at the number he asked him to,” Kaneria said on his YouTube channel.
Kohli has been in tremendous form since he scored a sensational century against Afghanistan at Asia Cup 2022, earlier this year. He was also the highest run-getter in this World Cup with 296 runs at a strike rate of 136.40 in six innings coming in at number three. He also produced the highlight of this World cup for Indian fans when he single-handedly won the match for India against Pakistan with a score of an unbeaten 82.
Babar Azam has been 'stubborn': Kaneria
While praising Kohli for his attitude and selflessness, he lashed out at Pakistani skipper Babar Azam for being selfish and adamant about wanting to open for Pakistan and in the Pakistan Super League at the same time.
"Babar Azam has been stubborn about not giving up his opening spot. The same happened when he was with Karachi Franchise too. He is adamant about this because he cannot bat in the middle order. His stubbornness is only doing harm to Pakistani cricket because of the slow starts”, said the former leg-spinner.
Babar was criticized by many other former Pakistani cricketers for his poor performance in the 20-20 World Cup 2022 as he scored only 124 runs at an average of 17.71 and a strike rate of 93.23 in seven innings. It must be noted here that Babar is also ranked fourth in the world's batting rankings.
