5 teams who are favourites to win UEFA Champions League 2023/2024

The UEFA Champions League (UCL) 2023/24 group stage is almost at the business end with one more matchday left for each team. The 32 teams fight to win the most prestigious trophy in club-level football. Real Madrid is the most successful side in the tournament winning the tournament 14 times. For the minnows teams, it is a dream to play in the Champions League for once in their lifetime. Sometimes the underdogs have also won the tournament when nobody believed them to win it. 

Till now most of the teams have qualified for the knockout stages and are looking formidable as well. From the RO16 stage, the teams will fight to add their name to the trophy for the first time and some teams would love to add to their trophy count. In a few days, the draw for the knockout stages will also be announced as the best teams will compete against each other.

5. FC Barcelona

Since Lionel Messi's departure, the team failed to qualify for the knockouts of the UCL. They had a horrifying end leading them to the Europa League as well. The young team of Blaugranas have performed well in the domestic league but in pressure situations, they failed to deliver. But after the failure of two seasons, they have qualified for the knockouts and are one of the favourites to win the league as well. They have included some of the top-class players with the likes of Joao Cancelo, Joao Felix and Ilkay Gundogan in their squad, and with the squad depth they have, they will surely compete to win the best league in the world. 

4. Arsenal 

Arsenal under Mikel Arteta has turned themselves into a top-class team in Europe. In the last two seasons, they have shown their class and fearless side that has the belief of going on an unbelievable run and beating any team on their best day. The Gunners are yet to win the Champions League and this can be the season that they can lift the trophy. Arsenal has the most young players on their side and with the mentality of the young guns the team can be dangerous as they did in the Community Shield final when they shocked Manchester City.  

3. Bayern Munich 

Bayern Munich are one of the most formidable sides in Europe right now. But they have not had the best season so far as they are second in the points table of their domestic league. Thomas Tuchel's side has been the group toppers in the UCL as they have always qualified for the next round for the knockouts for the 16th consecutive time. Tuchel took charge of the team after Julian Nagelsmann was sacked. They have added the star English striker Harry Kane to their side and their attack has been one of the deadliest attacks in world football. 

2. Real Madrid 

Real Madrid are the best side when it comes to Champions League. They are always the favourites when it comes to winning UCL. They have won the tournament for the most number of times and who will forget their 2021-22 run of the UCL when they defeated the favourites Paris-Saint Germain (PSG) and Manchester City when Karim Benzema single-handedly led the side to win their 14th UCL. They have performed superbly this season and their star midfielder Jude Bellingham has been in his red-hot form in the current season.

Manchester City are the overall best side in club football as they have excellent backups in their squad and the squad depth is also brilliant. They won their first title in the last edition beating Inter Milan in the final. Pep Guardiola's side has been the most dominant in English football but in Europe, they have failed to deliver under pressure situations as they got knocked out on several occasions. They are also favourites of retaining the title in the current season. They would undoubtedly be among the most worthy teams to win the championship this season as well.
