Manchester City and Manchester United are one of the arch-rivals in European football history. The Red Devils' current form in the English Premier League has been a question as the team is suffering currently with the form. On the other hand, their noisy neighbours have been winning the titles easily in the last couple of years. United have appointed Omar Berrada from rivals as their new chief executive.
Berrada's resignation as City Football Group's chief football operations officer was announced just before United confirmed his employment. United have been looking for a new CEO since Richard Arnold's resignation, and they have found one in Berrada, who has played an important role in City's recent on- and off-field success. The transaction was executed fast so that Berrada could be in place as soon as Ratcliffe's deal to buy 25% of Manchester United was finished.
Berrada is seen as the best CEO candidate because of his excellent track record of managing both the football and commercial aspects of a club, having had great success at City and Barcelona. He negotiated contracts that saw City sign Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish, as well as produce record money from the City Academy.
The club is determined to put football and performance on the pitch back: Manchester United
A United statement said: "The club is determined to put football and performance on the pitch back at the heart of everything we do. Omar's appointment represents the first step on this journey. As one of the most experienced football executives at the top of European football, Omar brings a wealth of football and commercial expertise, with a proven record of successful leadership and a passion to help lead change across the club."
"It is our stated ambition to re-establish Manchester United as a title-winning club. We are pleased that Omar will be joining us to help achieve that goal, so that, once again, United fans can see, in the words of Sir Matt Busby, the red flag flying high at the summit of English, European and world football."
