The controversial dismissal of England’s wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow has sparked a debate in the cricket universe. The 2nd Ashes 2023 Test was played in Lord’s where Australia defeated England by 43 runs in a thrilling contest where Ben Stokes fought hard till the end but couldn’t take his team to victory.
Meanwhile, Australian middle-order batter Travis Head made a shocking revelation and said that during the first Ashes Test Bairstow told him that he won’t be shy to make him run out if Head gets out of the crease carelessly. Head said that he reminded Bairstow of the incident after he got run out by Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey after ducking the bouncer and leaving the crease in the 2nd Test.
“Jonny wasn’t too pleased. And I sort of reminded Jonny last week that I walked out of my crease at the end of an over. I quickly whipped my bat back and questioned Jonny on whether he would take the stumps and he said, ‘Bloody oath I would’, and ran off,” Head was quoted as saying by Crictracker.
If you put on the England hat, they’re disappointed: Travis Head
Australia have now taken a 2-0 lead over the English team and will aim to win the 3rd Test in order to seal the iconic Ashes series. Meanwhile, Head further added and compared Bairstow’s dismissal with Mitchell Starc’s catch which was denied by the 3rd umpire.
“If you put on the England hat, they’re disappointed. But Australia (side), to the letter of the law, which was explained with Mitchell Starc’s catch the day before that it would be out. I know they’ve questioned it differently if they were in the same situation but with all the heat out of the air, saying that is a little bit different than in the moment," he added.
The 3rd Test will be played at the Headingley. It’d be a crucial Test for England as a loss from here will make England lose the series. It’d be very interesting to see if England will approach the same aggressive approach in the upcoming Tests or not.
