India is currently playing Australia in the third T20I at the Basarpara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. Both teams are currently playing their second-string squad with the majority of the senior players absent from the squad. Suryakumar Yadav is leading the Men in Blue in the series with Hardik Pandya also absent due to an injury that he sustained during the ODI World Cup 2023. In the third T20I vice-captain Ruturaj Gaikwad played the best T20 knock in his international career as the opener scored his first international century.

Gaikwad started the innings slowly as India lost two quick wickets of Ishan Kishan and Yashasvi Jaiswal. They were struggling at 24/2 at one stage and then he and skipper Suryakumar stitched a partnership of 57 runs. Then the latter was back to the pavilion after scoring 39 runs off 29 deliveries. Surya was the aggressor between the two and smashed 5 fours and two sixes.

After the wicket of the skipper, he started to take on the Aussie bowling attack and charged at them all around the park. The batter scored the half-century in just 31 balls and from there the next half was scored in just 19 deliveries. This was his first international hundred for India. The batter has led the side in the Asian Games 2022 and won the gold medal as well.

Gaikwad scores big

Gaikwad scored at a strike rate of 215.78 and he became the first batter from India to score a century against the Aussies. He smashed 30 runs in the last over of Glenn Maxwell and was unbeaten till the end with 123 runs in 57 balls. Tilak Varma was unbeaten with 31 runs off 24 deliveries. The Kangaroos gave 23 runs on extra and India posted a massive total of 222/3 in their 20 overs.

Australia has come down to chase the mammoth total and has started well with 62/1 in the 5.2 overs. India would love to seal the series with the win in the third as they are 2-0 ahead.
