Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal started off brilliantly in an attacking mood from the very first ball of their 1st innings. They stitched a partnership of 80 runs.

India vs England 1st Day of the 1st Test has been ended. Rohit Sharma's side has ended on a high note picking up 7 wickets in the last two sessions giving out just 127. Ben Stokes's side won the toss and elected to bat first as they were bowled out for 246 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel picked 8 wickets between them with Jasprit Bumrah two wickets. Stokes was the highest run-getter for the side. 

Openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley gave the visitors a strong start. Before the spinners came in, the two put on a 55-run partnership for the first wicket. They scored 35 and 20 respectively, after that they lost wickets at regular intervals but they played their 'Bazball' brand of cricket. Stokes scored 70 off 88 balls before being dismissed by Bumrah. Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root stitched a partnership for some time but were back in the pavilion in the gap of just 4 runs.  

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal started brilliantly in an attacking mood from the very first ball of their 1st innings. They stitched a partnership of 80 runs before the former was dismissed playing a poor shot of Jack Leach's ball. Rohit was back in the dugout after scoring 24 off 27 deliveries. 

Indian batters dominate at end of Day 1 

The hosts just lost one wicket at the end of Day 1. They are now 119/1 at the end and are looking good with just 127 runs behind. Shubman Gill is there in the crease along with Jaiswal. The latter has scored another half-century and is unbeaten at the score of 76 runs off 70 deliveries smashing three sixes and 9 fours, and is eyeing for his second hundred in the longest format of the game. 

England spinners have not been up to the mark except for veteran Leach. All the other two spinners have gone for runs with Tom Hartley leaking out runs at 7 per over in his 9-over spell. Reehan Ahmed has also been expensive giving 22 runs in three overs.
