In the third Test match between India and England, India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. Before the start of the third Test match against England India handed two Test caps to Sarfaraz Khan and Dhurv Jurel. Sarfaraz received his Test cap through the hands of legendary off-spinner Anil Kumble while Dhurv Jurel got it from Dinesh Kartik. For England, their experienced pacer James Anderson opened the bowling account. Within the first 10th overs of the match, the Indian team lost 3 quick wickets with 33 runs on the scoreboard.

Yashasvi Jaiswal who scored his first double century in the second Test match against England was dismissed by Mark Wood in 10 runs. Shubman Gill who also scored a century in the second Test match was dismissed on duck again by Mark Wood. Tom Hartley got the wicket of Rajat Patidar who made his debut in the second Test match. As the top order batter failed to score runs Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja came to bat at No.5 Position.

While India’s batting looked like collapsed Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja to the wheel in their hands and put India in a strong position. On Day 1 Rohit Sharma scored 131 runs from 196 balls.  This century marked his 11th Test hundred. On his route to a century, he hit 14 fours and 3 sixes. Rohit Sharma also broke the record set by former Indian captain MS Dhoni of the most sixes hit by Indian batters in Test cricket. Ravindra Jadeja and Rohit Sharma made a partnership of 204 runs for the fourth wicket. While playing a pull shot bowled by Mark Wood, he ended up getting out. As Rohit departures, Sarfaraz Khan comes to bat.

India dominate England on Day 1

Sarfaraz Khan showed his batting skills as he scored a half-century from 48 balls. He also becomes the record holder along with Hardik Pandya to score the fastest half-century by an Indian batter on his Test debut. As Ravindra Jadeja was approaching his century a wrong call from him ended up getting the wicket of Sarfaraz Khan for England.

Mark Wood directly hit the ball towards the stumps.  Before getting run-out Sarfaraz Khan scored 62 runs off 66 balls. Sarfaraza Khan's dismissal bought Kuldeep Yadav a night watch for India. Ravindra Jadeja took a run on the next ball to score his 4th Test century. At the end of Day 1 India scored 326 runs at the loss of 5 wickets. Ravindra Jadeja remained not out on the score of 110 runs. 

India started Day 2 on a bad note as England claimed two quick wickets of in-form and set batter Ravindra Jadeja as he was caught and bowled by Joe Root. The night-watch Kuldeep Yadav was dismissed by James Andreson claiming his 696 wickets in Test cricket. Debutant Dhurv Jurel and experienced Ravichandran Ashwin came to bat. Dhurv Jurel showed confidence and skills in his batting as he hit a six against Mark Wood's bouncer.

While Ashwin stood steady by his side. But in the 106th of the third Test match India was penalised for 5 runs as Ashwin ran the runs between the danger zone. This resulted in England getting awarded 5 runs which means their batting will start from 5/0 instead of 0 runs on the scoreboard. Before Ravichandran Ashwin got out on 37 runs, he put on a partnership of 77 runs with Dhruv Jurel for the eight wickets. As India was all-out on 445 runs Jasprit Bumrah played a small cameo by scoring 26 runs which included 3 fours and 1 six.
