After the much-awaited squad for the remaining three matches of the series against England was announced, the fans were surprised and dejected at the same time to see Virat Kohli’s name missing from the squad. Earlier, the star batter was included in the squad for the first two Tests but Kohli himself opted out citing some personal reason. Since then, there have been a lot of speculations citing his comeback for the last three matches.

However, as per the latest development, Virat Kohli had notified both the Indian Cricket Board and the selection committee of his decision to withdraw from the three Test matches against England due to personal reasons. The Indian Cricket Board unveiled the squad for the upcoming Test matches against England on Saturday, February 10, with a few alterations. Shreyas Iyer has been sidelined for the remaining matches due to injury and as expected, Kohli is also absent from the squad.

During the first Test in Hyderabad, Kohli participated in training sessions before subsequently informing Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid of his decision to sit out the initial two matches. The Indian Cricket Board issued a statement requesting privacy for him. Jay Shah, the secretary of the Indian Cricket Board, affirmed that the board, selectors, and team management respect and support Kohli's decision.

Injury woes surround the Indian team

Virat's absence from the squad poses a significant setback for the Indian team, particularly as other batters are grappling with scoring runs. Additionally, the team is contending with injury woes, with Shreyas Iyer being the latest addition to the injury list. He has reported back spasms and a groin injury, rendering him unavailable for the three Test matches against England.

Previously, Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul also reported injuries. Following the first Test match, Jadeja suffered a hamstring pull, while Rahul experienced pain in his right quadriceps. Consequently, neither player participated in the second Test match in Vizag. However, both Jadeja and Rahul have made their return for the third Test match. Currently, the five-match Test series between India and England is tied at 1-1. The third match is scheduled to take place in Rajkot on February 15th.
