England faced a storm with the bat as Yashasvi Jaiswal scored an amazing double-century. The 22-year-old was severe with the bat in hand as he compiled a well-played 214 not out. This was his second successive double century for India in Test cricket after his maiden double ton in Vizag.

India set England a target of 557 to win the third Test match and take a 2-1 lead in the series. Ravichandran Ashwin was back in the ground after missing the entire third day due to personal issues.

The return of India’s strike bowler will be a huge boost for Rohit Sharma. The 37-year-old was rumoured to be out for the entire series. India will lead the series 2-1 if they happen to win this game ahead of the next game in Ranchi.

Yashasvi Jaiswal double ton powers India

Team India began the day well as Kuldeep Yadav began going after the bowlers. Number 3 batter Shubman Gill was dismissed for 91 when he was run out by Ben Stokes. Yashasvi Jaiswal came to the wicket after retiring hurt on 104 on day three. The next wicket to go was Kuldeep Yadav who was out for 27 having scored his first six in Test cricket. Sarfaraz Khan came out with the same attacking instinct that he had shown in the first innings.

It was the Yashasvi Jaiswal show as he smashed James Anderson for sixes. The veteran England bowler did not seem impressed as he exchanged words with the Indian batter. That didn’t deter Jaiswal who was cruising towards his 200.

England’s spinners who had done a lot of damage in the first two games were rendered toothless. Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid will be pleased with the way the two young batters played the spinners.

The declaration came with the score reading 430 and an overall lead of 556. Needing 557 to win, England saw their first innings centurion Ben Duckett run out for 4. Jasprit Bumrah then got the wicket of Zak Crawley for 11 to leave England at 18/2. It was soon 20/3 when Pope was caught by Rohit Sharma off Jadeja. Jonny Bairstow was the next man to go when he was out for 4 LBW to Jadeja.
