SWOT analysis of GT

Gujarat Titans (GT) has been one of the most formidable side in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They won their maiden title in the very first season of the toughest T20 league in the world. They also qualified for the final of the previous edition losing a thrilling game against Chennai Super Kings. GT had a so far a good campaign in the two seasons of the IPL as the squad performed excellently in the two seasons.

Under their former captain Hardik Pandya who led the side beautifully in the last two seasons. But Pandya has been traded back to Mumbai Indians (MI) in an all-cash deal of 15 crore INR. After that there has been a mess in the side with a good setup has been broken by five-time champions. The 2022 IPL champions have named Shubman Gill as the captain of the side, the Punjab-born batter was the orange cap winner in the last edition.

In the auction they fought hard to acquire the services of Mitchell Starc, but failed and eventually went for Australia's young pacer Spencer Johnson, with the new ball he will be definitely a threat for the batters in the pitch of Ahmedabad. GT would be loving to win their second trophy in their third year of the IPL. In the article we will be doing SWOT(Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities, Threats) analysis of the squad ahead of the IPL 2024 season.

SWOT analysis of GT

Strength

The biggest strength of the side is their bowling department, with pacers like Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Spencer Johnson, the pace department of the side is looking very explosive. As these three will be a threat with the new ball and the death as well, with the last two have the ability to ball in the death and swing early on in the innings the batters will have a tough time under lights in the IPL 2024. With Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmed in the spin department they will be hoping to add more pressure to the side in the spinning tracks and relatively slower wickets as well in the middle overs.

Weakness

The Weakness of the team is their middle order batting with Pandya gone to MI, they do not have that batter who can play both as an anchor as equally firepower towards the end of the innings. With the lack of quality all-rounders the team is looking a weak in the middle order, though they have Vijay Shankar but he cannot bowl four overs of his spell and is not wicket taker as well. Umesh Yadav and Mohit Sharma's form will be a concern as his last edition form was not so good.

Opportunities

Shahrukh Khan has been bought by the franchise and he has a good chance of grommed well under the mentorship of Gary Kirstern and Ashish Nehra. The Tamil-Nadu all-rounder has the chance of regaining his power hitting skils for the GT, which failed to do for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the last two seasons. With Shubman Gill as the new captain he will have the opportunity to experience a totally a new domain in his career.

Threats

Kane Williamson's form for the GT will be a threat to the side, he was injured in the very first match of the 2023 IPL season. The GT team management has trusted Gill to lead the side. Keeping the team’s future in mind, the move can be considered sensible but young Gill’s inexperience might go against the side in the competition.
