Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has been one the best side in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They always have been the unlickest ones in terms of winning the Indian Premier League (IPL). RCB has qualified in the final of the IPL for the three times and eventually ended up on the losing the tournament. The best chance they had was in 2016, when their former skipper Virat Kohli was the orange cap winner in tournament.
They are being one of the fan favourites in the tournament, but every year they have ended with a disappointing result. In the previous edition they finished in the 6th posistion and failed to qualify for the knockouts. They had traded Cameron Green from Mumbai Indians (MI) on price of 17.5 crore INR. The big Aussie all-rounder was forced to move to the side because MI traded back Hardik Pandya.
They released some of their bowlers ahead of the auction but bought back Alzarri Joseph, Shivam Mavi, Tom Curran, and Yash Dayal. But they after releasing Wanindu Hasaranga have not bought any experienced spinner in the auction. In the article we will be doing SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis of the side ahead of the season to start.
SWOT analysis of RCB
Strength
Their strength mostly comes from their power pact batting. With likes of Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Camron Green, Glenn Maxwell, Mahipal Lomror. Their batting looks solid on paper. All the batters have been in sensational form especially Kohli and Maxwell was in tremoundous form in the ODI World Cup 2023. They showed brilliant batting display in the white-ball format. Faf would be opening the innings as he was the highest runscorer for the team and he scored 730 runs in the tournament as was in the second place in orange cap list below Shubman Gill. With Kohli's form, they are hoping a power packed game play in the top order also with high scores for the franchise.
Weakness
Their biggest weakness is their bowling side. They have the services of Mohammed Siraj and Yash Dayal, but the team does not have any good overseas fast bowlers. However, in big games, bowlers always become little less effective. The IPL is supposedly a batters game, which explains the intense battle, that is seen these days. However, the survival of these bowlers does not appear easy especially on the pitch of M Chinnawamy Stadium, which is known as a batting paradise. Dew plays a massive role in the second half of the innings. They also do not have any experienced spin bowlers except Mayank Dagar, that is another part they might lag in the side.
Opportunites
With Cameron Green and Tom Curran, who have played in the IPL before are yet to make a name for them. The two all-rounders have good chance to make a name for themseleves in the IPL. Both of them shall contribute to the team, then RCB can qualify for the playoffs once more.
Threats
RCB's biggest threat is they do not have any squad depth, with a long season, injuries will be a problem for the side. With the travel schedule being busy one, there will be some major injuries that will take months to cure. Another threat will be the dependency on the top order. The side will be too much inclined to the batting. Incase their strategy fails, it will be difficult to win matches for the side.
