For their on-field altercation during an IPL 2023 match involving Lucknow Super Giants as well as Royal Challengers Bangalore, Virat Kohli along with Gautam Gambhir have taken a lot of heat from a variety of sources. Following RCB's victory over LSG in a low-scoring game at Lucknow's Ekana Stadium, the two almost exchanged blows.
Although the cause of the altercation cannot be determined with certainty, several reports suggested that it was brought on by Kohli's aggressive celebrations and remarks during the LSG chase. It's also possible that Kohli and Gambhir's tumultuous past had a significant impact on it.
In response to Kohli and Gambhir's violations of the IPL Code of Conduct, the Indian Cricket Board took severe action and withheld their full match costs. Sunil Gavaskar and Virender Sehwag, among others, thought it wasn't enough and that the pair ought had they been suspended to set a precedent.
Manoj Tiwary, a veteran cricketer for India, made a similar request to the Indian Cricket Board asking them to take a more active part in determining what sparked the altercation.
What did Manoj Tiwary say about the altercation between the two Indian legends?
Manoj Tiwary while speaking to Cricbuzz said that "BCCI should step in. This is not a pleasant sight, especially when you are an ambassador of the game, you shouldn't do such things. IPL is one of the most popular tournaments in the world, a lot of people watch it, especially youngsters. A lot of young people want to become like Virat Kohli. So, it is important to find the root cause of clashes like these. Healthy competition is good for the sport but not incidents like these."
Tiwary who was part of the KKR side when Gambhir was captain said that "This cannot go on. These two are icons as I had said earlier. When icons quit cricket, people want to remember them for what they have done on the field rather than other things. People mostly will remember Gambhir for his aggression, that will be the first thing that will come to their mind. They will forget that he has played a major role in India winning two World Cups. This should not happen. This is not the right example to set."
