Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) clashed against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the last league match of the Indian Premier League 2023 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday, May 21. However, RCB failed to perform in a must-win game and got eliminated from the tournament after losing the match by 6 wickets.

Meanwhile, in the 15th over of the Gujarat Titans' inning, former RCB captain Virat Kohli injured his knee while taking a catch off Vijay Shankar. A physiotherapist soon followed, but Kohli left the play before he could return and was last seen sitting on the bench, watching his team lose a crucial match. Any worries that Indian fans may have had about Kohli's readiness for the Test Championship final were later allayed by RCB head coach Sanjay Bangar.

“Yeah, he had a bit of a niggle in his knee. But I don't think there is anything serious. Having scored two back-to-back hundreds within a gap of 4 days. He is somebody who not only wants to contribute with the bat but even when he is fielding. He did a lot of running around. 40 overs a couple of days ago and today, for 35 overs he was on the field. He was giving his best. So it is going to bother at some point but I don't think it's anything serious.” Bangar was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Talking about the match, RCB needed to win the game to remain alive in the competition, but GT showed no compassion despite already having a position in the playoffs. With his eighth century in the cash-rich league, Kohli believed he had accomplished enough as he helped the team to achieve a great total of 197 runs in 20 overs.

But Shubman Gill's second consecutive century helped GT win by six wickets. Following RCB's loss, Kohli was understandably upset, and his response was telling as he smashed the water bottle on the floor after losing the match.
