Meanwhile, the two-time World Cup winner will lead the Delhi side for the 16th season. After all, Rishabh Pant has been ruled out as he is recovering from the near-fatal accident last December. There is no confirmation of his return to the game. Meanwhile, the 2020 finalists had decided to appoint Warner as captain.

The New South Wales player has led the Hyderabad franchise from 2015 to 2021. In the 2016 season, the Orange Army lift their maiden title. Apart from this, they reached the playoffs under Warner in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. In 2021, he was removed from the captaincy and was dropped from the playing XI. This led to a rift between the franchise and the player.

Last year, Warner joined the Delhi team in the mega auction. Rishabh Pant led the team and they finishes fifth in the points table. Meanwhile, this year, the latter will miss the tournament. After being appointed as captain, Warner said that the team will miss Pant.

“Rishabh has been a terrific leader for Delhi Capitals, and we’re all going to miss having him around. I would like to thank the management for the faith and trust they’ve always shown in me. This franchise has always been home for me, and I couldn’t be more excited to lead such a supremely talented bunch of players. I can’t wait to meet them all, and get cracking!” Warner said in a statement released by Delhi following the announcement.
