India became the new no.1 ranked team in Test cricket as per the latest Governing Cricket Council body’s Test rankings on Tuesday. They replaced Australia at the top spot, who will be coming to India for a four-match Test series in February.

India have 3690 points with 115 rating points (32 matches). Meanwhile, Australia have 111 rating points after playing 29 matches. England (106 Rating) are sitting third while New Zealand (100) and South Africa (85) complete the top five of the list. A total of ten countries are ranked in the Test format and Zimbabwe are at the bottom of the pile.

The Indian team had a strong finish in the oldest format last year. The Indian team won the Test series in Sri Lanka last year, and their final assignment against Bangladesh also ended in a series win. Australia were also excellent in the Tests in 2022. They had a series win over West Indies and South Africa. But their last match against the Proteas was rain-marred and that ended the match in a draw, denying the Aussies a clear whitewash opportunity. And it also took a toll on their ratings.

India can be the no.1 ranked team in all three formats

India continue their build-up to the 2023 ODI World Cup as they are set to face New Zealand next in an ODI and T20I series. The Kiwis are the top-ranked ODI side in the latest rankings while India are placed fourth. New Zealand are coming fresh off an ODI series win against Pakistan in Pakistan. India defeated the Lankans in an ODI series at home.

The forthcoming India vs New Zealand ODI series will be their battle to become the No. 1 team in World ODI Rankings. New Zealand, currently, are the No. 1 team in the rankings but India can replace them by registering a series whitewash, which is starting from 18th January.

The Rohit Sharma-led team already beat Sri Lanka 3-0 and the same scoreline against the Kiwis will make them the no. 1 ODI Team in the world.
