Basit Ali lashes star Pakistan batter after their loss against Afghanistan in ODI World Cup 2023

Pakistan team began their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign on a high note. They won their first two matches after their loss against their arch-rivals India, the Men in Green have lost all the momentum as they have lost three matches in a row. After their shocking defeat against Afghanistan, skipper Babar Azam's leadership qualities have been questioned by former players and experts. He has been lashed with criticism from several current and former players. 

Afghanistan cruised an eight-wicket win over the 1992 World Champions. The Pakistan bowlers were smacked all around the park and could not defend a total of 283 runs. They registered their first win against Babar Azam's side in ODI cricket. Some players and experts have suggested the No.1 ODI batter leave the captaincy and focus on his batting. 

Former Pakistan batter Basit Ali has now the same suggestion for the 29-year-old batter that he must leave the leadership of Pakistan and focus on developing his batting skills and abilities. He compared that former India skipper Virat Kohli also found his form after leaving the captaincy of India.

Ali while speaking on ARY news, "I told one year ago on my channel that Babar Azam is a very good batter. He should quit captaincy, just like Virat Kohli did. Virat stepped down and looked at his performances. His performance will become better, for sure." He also revealed that he was called a traitor when he told Babar to leave the captaincy, and said, "But, as we all know, certain people on social media twisted my words, saying I don't like Babar Azam and I am a traitor."

Babar after the loss against Afghanistan said, "We are hurt as a team. We must feel the disappointment and my message to my team for the remaining matches will be to learn from this defeat."

They will face one of the most formidable sides South Africa in their next match at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
