New Zealand vs Sri Lanka is currently underway at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Batting first the Lankans struggled and kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. But a decent last-wicket partnership from Maheesh Theekshana and Dilshan Madushanka gave some runs on the board. Rachin Ravindra the young Kiwi opener has been impressive in the tournament so far. He has been consistent in the marquee tournament and showed great intent in his batting.
Rachin was chasing a record of the great Sachin Tendulkar, with the most runs in a single edition of the World Cup before turning age 25. In the game against the Islanders, he crossed the batter's record and went past Tendulkar’s record of 523 runs at the 1996 World Cup. Previously he scored 523 runs in eight innings at an average of 74.71.
New Zealand is in contention in the race for the semi-final as they started their World Cup campaign well with four wins and then consecutively lost four matches but in a must-win game against the 1996 World Champions. They have performed superbly and going well in the run chase as well.
Rachin achieves new milestone
Rachin Ravindra previously broke the record of Sachin's most centuries before turning 25. The great batter scored two centuries in the 1996 World Cup against Kenya and Sri Lanka respectively. The 23-year-old batter has scored three hundred in the current edition and also became the first Kiwi batter to achieve this feat in the single edition of the World Cup.
The left-handed batter has been dismissed on 42 runs and has looked in good touch while chasing. The Black Caps have now lost the wickets of both the openers Devon Conway and Rachin. But they are 92/2 after the end of 14 overs. They need to keep in mind to chase down the target under 25 overs to keep their run rate high.
If Pakistan loses their last game against England the Kiwis will face India in the first semi-final.
