Australia defeated Afghanistan by three wickets in ODI World Cup 2023, at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Glenn Maxwell single-handedly took the game away from Hashmatullah Shahidi's side. Australia was struggling at 91/7 when skipper Pat Cummins and Maxwell built a partnership of 202 runs. The all-rounder scored a double-century in the run chase. With the win in Mumbai, the Aussies have cemented their place in the semi-final.
Former players and experts praised his innings after the game as they were mesmerized by the innings he played after having cramps in his leg. Maxi's Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) teammate Virat Kohli, posted on social media. The former India skipper believes that only Maxwell can play such innings. The Aussie all-rounder became the first batter in history to score a double hundred while chasing.
The 35-year-old scored 201 runs off 128 balls, hitting 21 fours and 10 sixes. He struggled as he got cramps while batting but made sure he took his team through, Cummins also gave valuable support as he scored 12 runs off 68 balls and stayed on the other side of the innings and witnessed the best innings of the World Cup so far.

The batter was overwhelmed with all the wishes he got, Maxwell scored "Pretty overwhelmed with all the Thank you so much to everyone that has sent messages. @patcummins30 was amazing out there! Sorry, I knocked back a couple of Time to get back to dad duties." The batter was dropped on 33 runs by Mujeeb ur Rahman and from there he turned the game around for the five-time champions.
After the match, he said, "It would have been nice if it was a chanceless knock, but I had my chances, to make the most of it tonight was something I can be proud of. Amazing, after the first two games, people were quick to write us off. The belief was always there (as a team), after today, it would have gone a bit higher."
